Destin business owner Rodney Braden and Councilman Tom Weindenhammer, spent much of Friday waiting for the results of which one them would take the third seat for the Destin City Council.
"It is not like we don't have them a lot. Just usually we have them even more when you have a vote for multiple types of a race, where you have a 2, 3 or 4, and it is due to those 2nd and 3rd place people,” said Paul Lux, Supervisor for Elections.
After counting the two provisional ballots that remained, the Okaloosa County Supervisor of Election's office deemed it a tie.
Each having 579 votes, the candidates were anxious.
"This is crazy; I didn't know this was all involved in a recount. It is quite intense,” said Rodney Braden.
"Well everybody has been working really hard to do a recount for an absolute tie vote between the two of us,” said Tom Weindenhamer.
A machine recount was then conducted.
But it ended up with the same results, both tied at 579 votes each.
The next step a manual recount, which also resulted in a tie, so elections officials, turned to a deck of cards.
The two candidates cut the deck, with the high card winning the seat.
In the end, Destin Business owner Rodney Braden claimed victory, after drawing a queen.
This is the second time Weindenhamer has come out on the short end of a city council race recount.
