PANAMA CITY -- Students, alumni and friends honored who they say was an influential man at Rutherford High School Tuesday evening.
A school's new band room is named after the late bandmaster Rodney L. Dasinger. The community showed up to support Dasinger receiving this honor.
Inside the performing arts building people of all ages showed their support of the late bandmaster.
"He was such a phenomenal teacher. Life lessons and band, you know this is….It needed to happen," said Alumni Member Jeff Bettorf.
That was the spirit of all who attended Tuesday nights dedication ceremony. Mr. Dasinger was a band instructor at Rutherford High School for 28 years.
Widow Laurie Dasinger said, "They're all just very supportive very supportive."
Rodney's wife explains him as a humble man, stating that prior to his death Rodney was aware that the new band room would be named after him.
"He would love it but he would be embarrassed that they were saying all this nice stuff about him," said Dasinger.
Students of Rodney Dasinger say what they took most from their band teacher was to work hard.
Student Victoria Bettorf said, "I learned so much from him he told me to never give up if something was hard we would always go back over it."
"Nothing is gonna come to you easy. You've got to work for it," Bettorf said.
Dasinger led the band at Rutherford from 1981 until 2009. Students said naming the band room in his honor allows his spirit to live on.
