Monday afternoon Bay County Sheriff’s officers found the body of Bay County businessman Allen Johnson at his home on Wilson Avenue. The family of Johnson went to his home and forced entry when they couldn't make contact with him. They found his body just before 2:00 this afternoon, and apparently he had been shot.
Bay County Sheriff’s officials are looking for 41 year old Derrick Ray Thompson. They consider him a person of interest in Johnson’s murder, and in a double homicide that happened in Milton on Sunday. The bodies of Steven and Debra Zackowski were found in their mobile home in Milton, which launched the initial search for Thompson by Santa Rosa County deputies.
He was reportedly spotted in Bay County, but no other sign of him until Johnson’s body was found Monday. Thompson’s vehicle was found at Johnson’s home when deputies arrived Monday afternoon, and Johnson’s truck was missing. Investigators are now looking for that truck, a silver 4 door, 2010 Toyota Tundra with an FSU Florida license plate, tag number VY-015. The vehicle also has a chrome brush guard. Thompson is described as a white male, 5’6”, about 225 pounds. Anyone with information on the vehicle or Thompson is asked to contact the Bay County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 785-TIPS.
The BCSO Crime Scene Unit is still at the home conducting a forensic analysis. Johnson’s body will be turned over to the Medical Examiner for autopsy.
Johnson is well known as the owner of the Toy Box and Show-N-Tail adult clubs. He also worked as an investigator with the Bay County Sheriff’s office in the 1960’s and 70’s, but left to open his adult businesses. The Show-N-Tail burned down in 2006, and after years of legal issues, the former strip club reopened as a bikini nightclub in 2012 in Panama City Beach.
The search is on for a suspected murderer, who may still be in the area, after a local businessman was found shot to death in his Bay County home.
