Search Ongoing for Springfield Post Office Robbers

SPRINGFIELD - Investigators are searching for three suspects who allegedly robbed the Springfield Post Office.

Springfield Police Chief Philip Thorne says officers received a 911 call around 5 p.m. Wednesday. The call was from the Springfield Post Office clerk saying armed individuals locked him in the closet.

When police arrived at the Springfield Plaza on the 3200 block of Business 98, the suspects were nowhere to be found. Thorne says the clerk was not injured.

Preliminary investigation reports show police are looking for one woman, one man, and another individual. Investigators say the woman pointed a silver semi-automatic handgun at the clerk ordering him to let her and the two other suspects behind the counter.

After locking the clerk in the closet, police say they stole money and other items. Investigators are working with the Postal Service to determine how much money and what items were stolen.

The Springfield Police Department, Bay County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Postal Inspectors and the FBI are working together on the case.
