Firefighters were keeping a close eye Tuesday night on a small brush fire that threatened some homes in West Bay County.

Fire officials said it broke out around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday in the woods off Pine Circle near Highway 79, burning about 4 acres. At one point, flames came dangerously close to a few homes, causing some light damage to one of the buildings. Luckily nobody was reportedly injured.

Firefighters contained the fire quickly, but windy conditions kept them on the scene.

"Really at the drop of a hat, if it's fairly windy it can spread very quickly, and that's why a lot of times we want to try to get on there quickly and contain it as quick as possible," said Bay County Fire/Rescue Lieutenant Isaac Smith.

The Florida Forest Service was investigating the cause of the fire.
