Coach Frank Sorrells Sues Bay District Schools

Frank Sorrells is suing Bay District Schools in Federal Court saying his dismissal from the head coaching job at Bay High in 2011 was based on age discrimination.

Coach Sorrells coached Bay in 2009 and 2010, taking a winless team in 0-8, winning four games his first season on the job there, then 5-5 his second season.

He claims in his suit, he had informed school administrators at that time he intended to coach for another 4 or 5 years.

Billy May who was named Bay's principal in 2011, told Newschannel 7 Sports in May of that year he decided to remove Sorrells based mainly on the fact he wanted somebody who was going to be there for quote "a period of years, not just one or two" unquote.

Sorells, now in his late 60's, spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Mosley, with 40 plus years of coaching experience. That includes a state championship at Niceville in '88.

He was replaced by Jimmy Longerbeam who was in his late 40's when he took the job at Bay.

Coach Sorrell's suit is asking for lost wages, benefits and all damages allowed by law.
