The signs of South Walton High's first state title in its eleven year history, were posted in every hallway.

"It's unbelievable. It's been an exciting couple of weeks going from the district tournament through the regionals and taking our first trip to the final four" said South Walton Athletic Director Phil Tisa.

"We are absolutely ecstatic. We are so proud of our girls and you've seen the student body is gearing up to welcome them back" said South Walton Principal David Preast.

All that excitement reached a climax Thursday afternoon, when the team's bus pulled onto the campus. The Lady Seahawks' historic championship may have come in a relatively short time.

"You can't even begin to phathom what it means for the school. You know being eleven years old and never having done this before on a team level" said Tisa.

But it didn't come easy. The staff and the players have worked hard to build a championship program and they say they'll continue to build on this year's success.

"We make sure that we keep our good students and our good student athletes coming to South Walton. Your only as good as your future" said Tisa.

For now, they'll forget about the future for a few days, to celebrate and appreciate the school's first state title.

"It's bigger for the school and the community. It's really just something that brings everybody together. It's just hard to describe what this is going to do for this place" said South Walton Girls Head Basketball Coach Kevin Craig.

The school is holding a pep rally for the girls basketball team Friday to celebrate an historic two weeks.
