South Walton High School Teacher Resigns

On December 15th Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies say they spotted 26-year old Brittney Anna Bowman's vehicle swerving on Highway 98 in Destin.

The deputy who stopped Bowman asked her to get out of the car for a field sobriety test and claims a bag of cocaine fell out of the vehicle.

Bowman was teaching at Crestview High School to the time.

Last month Bowman began teaching algebra at South Walton High School.

Someone brought her arrest to the attention of Walton County School Superintendent Carlene Anderson.

Anderson say the district was unaware the incident because the state's Professional Practices Commission did not follow proper protocol.

"When Ms. Bowman was hired in Walton County she met all the qualifications and requirements for employment,” said Superintendent Carlene Anderson. β€œIt was later discovered that her certificate is still being reviewed by the Florida Professional Practices Commission. She has tendered her resignation which would be effective October 1st, 2013.”

This is not Bowman's first arrest. In November 2006 she was charged with burglary, as well as battery on a law enforcement officer.
