SOUTH WALTON A South Walton county man picked an unusually and inspiring way to celebrate his birthday his weekend.

Dale Westberry decided to walk 37 miles along 30A.

Westberry began on the west end of 30A around 7 p.m. Sunday.

He walked 18 miles to shades at the loop, near the bay county line, where he ate and changed into dry clothes around midnight.

Then he headed back the same way, walking west until he finished where he started about 6:00 a.m. Monday.

He walked the entire 37 miles in 10 hours.

"I just wanted to do something on my 65th birthday that I would remember, and remind me life is better if you are in shape,” said Westberry.

He also says he wanted to show seniors they, too, can stay healthy by walking.

Westberry walks about 10 miles a day.

This is the first time he's done 37 miles.
