Panama City Beach- Hundreds of people turned out for a spaghetti fundraiser Sunday benefiting Bay High School's marching band trip to the Orange Bowl.
Captain Anderson's Restaurant graciously hosted the event and provided the food at no cost to the band. Tickets were $10, and since Captain Anderson's donated the spaghetti, band members who sold tickets collected all the profit.
The profit is going toward the band's trip this New Year's to the Orange Bowl in Miami. The price tag for the trip is $275,000, and that may seem like a lot, but when you add up the 250 band members and chaperones plus the accomodations involved, you can better understand why it's that high.
Band Director Nicholas Efstathiou said he accepted the Orange Bowl invite to allow his students an opportunity at this once in a lifetime experience.
"It's just amazing what could happen and what these kids can do, because they're working hard, they're serving. You know they don't have to be here this Sunday afternoon, they could be at home watching TV on the couch, but they're just serving the community because they want to get to Orange Bowl and they're not doing it for nothing," said Efstathiou.
