BAYOU GEORGE - Construction will begin this year on Bay County's first-ever special needs park.
Commissioners approved $50,000 Tuesday morning to create the facility at Harders Park off John Pitts Road in Bayou George.
It will feature playground equipment designed for special needs children.
Right now the only place with amusement attractions for special needs children is miracle strip.
"I'm excited about it. It gives us the opportunity to provide recreational opportunities for young people that haven't had those opportunities, folks with developmental handicaps that haven't been able to participate in some of the parks and recreation," Bay Co. Commissioner, Guy Tunnell said.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall and should take about 6 months.
