Springfield May Deny Trolley Funding Increase

SPRINGFIELD - Another city looks like it will turn down the Bay County Transportation Planning Organization's request for funding for the Bay Town Trolley.

Springfield city commissioners are leaning heavily towards denying the request.

The TPO is asking Springfield for about $12,000. The city did not contribute anything to the trolley system last year.

Most commissioners say the city can't afford much this year either.

"It's a little more than what we could afford and i think that the trolley should to try to look at other areas to find their funding," said Springfield city commissioner, Carl Curti.

Commissioners will make a decision at their next meeting in early September on whether the trolley system should receive more money.

Bay County, Panama City, Lynn Haven, Callaway, Parker and Gulf Coast State College trustees have all said no to funding increases.

Only Panama City Beach has said yes, agreeing to an additional $6,000.

Trolley officials say they need an additional $125,000 to maintain current service.
