Springfield Post Office Robbery was Fake

By  |

Two Callaway siblings involved in a post office robbery hoax are due in court today.

Springfield police say 20-year-old David Allen Rice, a clerk at the Springfield post office, told officers he was robbed at gunpoint while at work. He said the three suspects fled the scene.

But as the investigation progressed it became clear that no robbery had taken place.

Instead Rice and another accomplice, 20-year-old Diane Goines, allegedly conspired to steal the money from the post office.

Rice supposedly gave the money to Goines who took it to a home, while he reported the false story to police.

The pair face grand theft charges, and Rice faces false report to law enforcement charges.

Most, if not all of the money, was recovered.
