State Gives Port Panama City Half the Money Needed for Major Contstruction Project

The state is giving Port Panama City about half of the money it needs for a major construction project.

Governor Rick Scott announced the Florida Department of Transportation is giving the port 900,000 dollars to go towards a 1.9 million dollar Intermodal Distribution Center.

Community leaders broke ground on the project late last year and construction is already underway at the city's Industrial Park in Bayou George.

The Port Authority will use some of the money build access roads, as well as cargo staging areas and room for 20 rail cars to unload and transfer products to trucks.

Port Officials say the 150,000 square foot distribution facility will be the key in improving distribution between it and the main port facility in St. Andrews.
