CHIPLEY - Heavy rains the past two days have flooded roads across Washington County. The most heavily traveled of those is State Road 77.
Sunday night, the Florida Department of Transportation closed State Road 77 at Blue Lake, just south of I-10, due to flooding.
•Northbound traffic will travel east on County Road 77A (State Park Road), north on C.R. 77A (Falling Waters Road), west onto C.R. 280 then north on S.R. 77.
•Southbound traffic will head east on C.R. 280, south on C.R. 77A (Falling Waters Road), west on C.R. 77A (State Park Road) then south on S.R. 77.
If the road ahead is flooded, turn around and find an alternate route. Flooded roads may hide the fact that the roadway is washed out underneath and as little as six inches of rushing water can force your car off the road.
County officials are urging people to stay off the road. Public Works personnel are unable to keep up with the demand and place barricades at each flooded area. DO NOT assume roads are safe because there are no warning signs posted.
