Fundraiser New Father Shot, Killed

PANAMA CITY-- Funeral arrangements are set for a local man tragically shot and killed in his own home.

The family of 33 year old Stephen "Justin" Ayers will receive friends at Northside Baptist Church of Airport Road at 10:00 this Saturday morning.

Funeral services will take place immediately after at 11:00 a.m.

The burial itself will be a private service for family members.

Ayers died Tuesday evening at his home on Michigan Avenue in the Drummond Park section of Panama City.

He, his wife Jessica and their family were celebrating the birth of their first child, a son, born just three days before, when a bullet came through a glass door and hit Ayers in the head.

Sheriff's investigators have arrested a neighbor, charging him with manslaughter.

Ayers was well known among local musicians.

He taught guitar for more than 20 years, and played in local bands.

Monday morning, Tom Lewis and Shane Collins will be taking our WPAP morning show to Cahall's Deli on 23rd Street for a fundraiser to help Jessica Ayers.

You can drop by from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., make a donation and sign a guitar that we'll give to Jessica and Justin's son.

There will be free food, some entertainment and lots of guests.

So make plans to stop by Cahall's Monday morning from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. to help the Ayers family.
