Students Compete in Math Competition

Some local students get a chance to show off their math abilities Friday.

It's called Math Counts that's much like a national bee-style competition.

Dozens of Bay County Middle School students took part in the competition at the Adavanced Technology Center at Gulf Coast State College.

Teachers and students have been preparing for the competition since fall.

Students competed individually and as teams in written and fast-paced oral match.

"Math is all about patterns and how you use those patterns so especially in math counts we try to show the kids connections between subjects they know really well and maybe something they don't know really well," said Morgan Sansbury, Jinks Middle School Teacher

Subjects include algebra, probability, statistics and geomerty.

Winner recieve trophies and prize and will advance to the state math counts finals this March in Orlando.
