Students at Haney Remember Sandy Hook Murders

Students and staff at Haney Technical Center took time out to remember the victims of last week's school massacre in Connecticut.

The event was organized by aviation instructor Paul Hruza, who also read the names of the victims.

"To go down that list, to read it off, there's just so many, so it was difficult," said Hruza. "It's just something I had to do. I tried to eliminate feelings at that point so I could make it through the list."

Prior to the victims' names being called, participants walked around the campus for 27 minutes, in honor of each of the 27 victims. They each carried green or white balloons with the victim's names written on them.

"It just felt good for me to be able to, you know, release the balloon and see all the balloons go up in the air," said April Thompson. "To know that I was carrying Emilie or just one of the fallen on that day. You know, you have to choke back tears just to talk about it because they were so innocent."
