Suspect in Contractor's Murder Pleads Not Guilty

PANAMA CITY BEACH - The man accused of killing a local contractor at a church construction site has pleaded not guilty.

Christopher Hyler is accused of shooting Bobby Ellison on August 10, 2010, in a construction office on Back Beach Road at what was then the future home of the First Baptist Church of Panama City Beach.

For 16 months, police struggled to build a case. Then, in December 2011, police received information that Hyler was possibly responsible. Police arrested Hyler last month.

After Hyler entered a not guilty plea, the judge scheduled a pretrial conference for August 8.

Hyler is being held in the Bay County Jail without bond.
