A freight train carrying a variety of chemicals derailed early Saturday morning in Jackson County. The incident happened in Grand Ridge just off State Road 69 around 7:45 a.m.

According to first responders, about four box cars and three tankers flipped over in the wreck. One hopper spilled some PVC powder but officials say they did not order any evacuations because no chemicals or gas leaked and no one was injured.

"We identified the tankers to have methyl chloride, sodium hydroxyl solution. The hopper car did spill PVC powder. But fortunately there were no evacuations and no fire and no gas were released from the scene," said Lt. Paramedic with Jackson County Fire Rescue, Charles Brunner.

Officials believe a frozen joint in the track may have caused the mishap. The CSX train was eastbound when it jumped the track. Authorities are hopeful the track will re-open by midnight Saturday.

I think I remember a train derailing in '97 near Davenport Rd and Old Spanish Trail.

Didn't a train derail one time before in Grand Ridge. Seems a little strange that all the derailing happens in that town.
