Two Area Traffic Fatalities This Weekend

PANAMA CITY, Fla. Two people died this weekend in two separate traffic crashes in this area, one in Walton County and the other in Gadsden County.

A 22 year old motorcyclist from Santa Rosa Beach died Saturday night on Highway 98 east if Rue Caribe in South Walton.

The Florida Highway Patrol identified the fatality Conor Michael Philbin.

Philbin was eastbound on Highway 98 when he changed lanes at a higher speed than the car he wanted to pass was traveling and crashed into the rear of a car. He was not wearing a helmet.

He died at Sacred Heart of the Emerald Coast Hospital in Miramar Beach.

Meanwhile, in another crash, a semi-tractor trailer driver died in Gadsden County on US 27 north of McNair Road Saturday morning.

FHP troopers say the driver, who has not yet been identified until relatives are notified, was northbound on US 27 when he drove off the pavement into the grassy area.

The semi then crashed into four metal posts and a large tree where it caught fire. The Havana Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

The driver was pronounced at the scene by Gadsden County EMS personnel.
