Chipley Indian Pow Wow

You may not realize it, but the Panhandle is rich with Indian culture. Traditionally, a Native American Pow Wow is a gathering of tribal nations. But a Pow Wow near Chipley Saturday also welcomed non-Native Americans including veterans.

During the three day event there is traditional dancing, drumming, music and plenty of cultural items on display.

Saturday, members of the tribes took time to pay tribute to all veterans who continue to help preserve their freedom. The Washington County Tourist Development Council helps sponsor the event and it wraps up Sunday night.

We are native, but we are just regular people. We go to work and pay taxes and enjoy the American way of life. We don't try to relive all the sad situations that the Indians had to endure in the past. We are aware of them, but we find that drawing attention to yourself is a bad idea. Our family consist of 3 different races of people and we are proud that they chose us to be their family. We only flaunt that we are Americans, not that we are different races.
