Longtime education pioneer, Deane Bozeman’s life and legacy was celebrated Friday as about hundred friends, family and former colleagues converged to Deane Bozeman School for her funeral service.

Several guest speakers shared old stories about Bozeman’s influence on their lives during the funeral service. After the ceremony, they loaded her casket into a hearse and took her around the football field in a victory lap, in honor of her strong support for school athletics.

Bozeman was the longest-serving school board member in the district’s history, spanning 28 years. Deane Bozeman School was named after her in September of 2000, during a ribbon cutting ceremony in which she attended.

Deane Bozeman was laid to rest at the Kent Forest Lawn Cemetery. She was 84 years old.
