A Virginia Soldier is being honored for something that happened in Panama City Beach.
Chief Warrant Officer Thomas F. Oroho was enjoying some down time at the beach over Labor Day weekend in 2012, after participating in a staff course at Fort Rucker across the line in Alabama.
He heard a woman screaming for help for her husband and daughter who were caught in a strong rip-tide.
Oroho dived into the water with two other Soldiers right behind him.
The three were able to bring the father and daughter safely to shore.
For his action, Oroho has been awarded the Soldier's Medal which is given to Soldiers who perform an act of heroism that does not involve conflict with an enemy.
