Bay County- The Bay County Animal Shelter will once again allow volunteers on-site after almost two years.
Volunteers were banned from the shelter in October 2012, but members of the Bay County Commissioner unanimously passed a new program Tuesday.
The guidelines require volunteers to apply and undergo training. They will also have to schedule volunteer times and will not have access to the entire shelter.
County Commissioner Chair Guy Tunnell says he thinks the new policy will benefit more than just the volunteers.
"It's good to have some guidelines," Tunnell said. "I think there's enough flexibility in there to where the staff can work through this really well, and again it's good for the volunteers, and bottom-line it's good for the animals."
Volunteers will soon be able to sign up for time slots on the county's website. You can contact Animal Services for more information or contact Sherry Hatton at email@example.com.
Training classes should be available within the month.
