PANAMA CITY BEACH - Bay County public school students go on spring break next week. Volunteers are using this week to prepare for students who won't have anything to eat.
Members of Angels4Education and Baypointe Church are packing meals for more than 200 beach area children.
The Backpack Blessings program already provides food for underprivileged children on weekends. Now the volunteers are making sure the kids have something to eat on the week-long break.
Residents are pitching in, stuffing bags with 9 days worth of food. They say there's a need for this program.
"It's a lot more than people realize especially on the beach. There's a huge misconception that because it's the beach, it's all affluent people and it's just not," said Alicia Bailie, Angels4Education Co-Founder.
Volunteers ended up packing more than 4,000 breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack items into the bags.
