Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Love’s Truck Stop

WALTON COUNTY - Walton County Commissioners spent a few minutes Wednesday morning, shoveling a little dirt at the county's industrial park in Mossy Head.

They held a ground breaking ceremony for the new Love's Truck Stop near the intersection of U.S. Highway 285 and Interstate 10.

The plans include a full service gas station, convenience store, a Subway and a McDonalds.

The site has been cleared for months.

"The county officials the vision they had to put the infrastructure and to make everything so that we could make it happen, my hat's off to Walton County,” said Bill Gleason, a representatives for Love’s.

The project will also bring close to 80 full-time and part-time jobs to the area.

"With Florida's statewide unemployment down 4.1 percentage points since December 2010, the focus is getting jobs for Florida families,” said District 3 Commissioner, Bill Imfeld.

County and state leaders are hoping the Love's Truck Stop will be the first of many businesses at this location.

"What we see here today is a magnet for other businesses that helps grow the economy,” said Florida Senator Don Gaetz. “But with people coming here this gives the opportunity to folks to stop in Northwest Florida, gas up and take advantage of our hospitality and that in itself will add to prosperity."

Construction is scheduled to begin in January.

Love's officials say they hope to open for business around the Fourth of July weekend.
