A DeFuniak Springs Man is Going to Prison for Setting a Home on Fire

WALTON COUNTY- A Walton County man is going to prison for at least 10 years and as much as 30 years for arson and burglary.

A jury convicted 37 year old Jesse Rayndle Welch, Jr., of burglary of a dwelling while armed with a firearm and arson.

Welch kicked-in the door of a home on Walton Road in DeFuniak Springs, around 9:30 in the morning on January 11th.

He stole a shotgun inside, then set-fire to the home.

Turns out Welch had a 9 year relationship with the homeowner's girlfriend.

Jesse Welch had previously been in a 9 year relationship with the victim's girlfriend.

When he found out about her new boyfriend, Welch sent threatening text messages to the woman.

Judge Kelvin Welsh sentenced Welch up to 30 years on the armed burglary charge, with a minimum mandatory 10 years.
