According to Walton County Sheriff reports, a woman on Mack Bayou Road in South Walton claimed her neighbor's pit bull ran up to her car Tuesday night, frightening her and her family.
When the first deputy arrived, he says the same pit bull ran toward him and the woman.
The deputy says he stood between the dog and the family, then shot the dog.
The whole incident was videotaped through the deputies glasses. The video is still being reviewed.
"There is a lot of misinformation going around, you know people saying that the deputy was on the owners property, and that the deputy shot the dog in the back yard,” stated Catherine Rodriguez, Public Information Officer for the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. “This is inaccurate the dog was in a public street, off the property when the incident occurred."
Sheriff's officials say the same dog recently attacked another dog and its owner, and last August the pit bull bit a child, which had to be hospitalized.
The dog owner was not available for comment.
