Water Management District Rejects Location For Emergency Water Wells

Panama City- The Northwest Florida Water Management District voted unanimously to uphold an administrative judges ruling, rejecting the location for emergency water wells in Northern Bay County.

County officials wanted to drill ten wells in the Sand Hills area, as an emergency back-up water supply to Deer Point Lake, but a number of Bay and Washington County landowners, and the Washington County Commission challenged the plan, saying the wells would threaten the water supply of around the wells.

The judge sided with the residents.

"I just think the area in which it was located, they disagreed with. We disagree with that, but we're going to move forward anyway with another plan," said Ed Smith the Bay County Manager.

Smith says the county may look at emergency wells at Deer Point Lake, but that plan would need state approval.
