PANAMA CITY -- People from all over are gearing up for holiday travel but not everyone will have the chance to tag along. Traveling with a pet may be difficult during the holiday season.
Many people often turn to kennels or boarding facilities. When caring for their pets most locals have the same standards in mind.
Pet Owner Marcia Malamphy said, "I look for a clean place. A place where I know they're going to be attended to."
Pet Owner Anna Papkee said, "A place that's clean well run, organized friendly staff…"
Christmas is on Wednesday and locals want to make sure their pets are being cared for properly.
Anna Papkee is from Chicago, she has two cats and one dog…but they won't be joining her when she leaves for her holiday break.
"We always look for a good place to put our pets and its good to be able to put them somewhere where you know they're safe and happy and well cared for,” Papkee said.
Naju President Biff Hunt said, "In any situation whether it's a home environment or a boarding facility or anything is the structured routine and socialization and occupying their body and their mind so they stay physically and mentally busy, because that alleviates the stress.
Papkee said it was tough to find a place that would take all three of her pets at one time.
At Naju there is a waiting list. Initially, only her cats made the list.
"It was disappointing to think that he (the dog) wouldn't be able to come here with the cats so we were very excited that he was able to come."
Papkee is just grateful to find a place that she trusts to care for her pets this holiday season.
Many local facilities are booked through Christmas and new years day. If you are looking to board your pet for then you better hurry!
