Area Fire Danger is Critical

Updated: 04/07/2007 - Our dry conditions and high winds are causing the Division of Forestry to suspend all outdoor burning for the next few days, especially since three woods fires flared up Friday afternoon across our region. A major fire west of Apalachicola has burned about 500 acres but no one has been injured and no structures burned. The fire forced the closure of an approximately 15-mile section of U-S Highway 98 between Port St. Joe and Apalachicola. This forcing motorists to take a more than 100-mile detour between the two cities.
