Defuniak Ethics Case

Former Defuniak Springs City Marshall Ray Burgess has agreed to pay a $3,500 fine to settle an ethics case, but his accuser says that's not enough.

Burgess was ousted two years ago after the Florida Department of Law Enforcement found he had he falsified the certification records of an officer he planned to hire.

In his proposed settlement with the state Ethics Commission, Burgess also admits he misused his position in falsifying overtime hours.

Pattie Kng-Sinner, who reported the wrongdoing, is asking the Ethics Commission to be tougher on Burgess when it decides the case next Friday.

She wants Burgess banned from holding public office, or a law enforcement position in Florida.

She claims she was tormented for blowing the whistle on her boss, and she claims Burgess has shown no remorse.

The full commission can accept, reject, or amend the settlement, which was proposed by its staff.
