The body of a swimmer who disappeared in the Gulf Friday evening washed up in the surf late Saturday night.

At about 10:00 Friday night, Panama City Beach Police responded to a distressed swimmer call at the 13200 block of Oleander Drive.

When they got there, officers pulled a female from the Gulf who was later identified as 32-year-old Estelle Stevenson of Marianna.

Stevenson was swimming about 75 yards offshore on the east side of the Bay County pier Friday when she went missing.

Witnesses heard her yelling for help then saw her go under water and by the time help arrived, she was gone.

The coast guard used a boat and helicopter to look for the woman and the Bay County Sheriff's Office assisted with their helicopter but they called off the search around 3:00 Saturday Morning.

Two Alabama vacationers said they found the body that washed up in the surf near the Casa Loma hotel on Front Beach Road.
