Authorities in Panama City Beach are looking for a distressed swimmer who reportedly went missing in the Gulf.

Around 2:45 Saturday afternoon, Leon Yarbrough was riding a wave runner in the Gulf behind the Gulf Crest Condominium.

Yarbrough says he saw a man waving one arm in the air as if he was having trouble swimming. The distressed swimmer went under water and came back up for a second so Yarbrough sped his jet ski over but then couldn't find him.

The Bay County Sheriff's office and Coast Guard both sent up their helicopters to search for the man from the air while deputies and Coast Guard boats searched the water.

"The guy went under the water and he came back up and I went straight for a beeline towards him. When I got there, where he was, he wasn't there anymore," said Leon Yarbrough who reported the incident to authorities.

Authorities say at this point they do not have any missing person reports and do not know the swimmer's identity. Yarbrough says the man had straight dark hair and was wearing a red and yellow shirt.
