Panama City -- Dog owners and their furry friends have a new place to spend time together and lots of people spent time there Saturday.

Bay county held a grand opening celebration for the new dog park. With a doggy costume contest, free pet micro chipping and treats for everyone, it was a fun filled morning at the Everitt Avenue park in Cedar Grove.

The two acre, off leash park features watering stations, picnic tables, clean up facilities and restrooms for people and their pets.

"I had no place to bring her before except around the neighborhood but definitely coming around here three to four times a week," says dog owner, Bettie Parks.

"We are just excited to be doing this for the community of Bay county to give them a place to bring their dogs so they can run free and have this facility to enjoy their pets," said Bay County Commissioner Bill Dozier.

The Everitt Avenue facility is the second dog park opened by Bay county. It opens at dawn and closes at dusk.
