Students from Florida A&M University are heading back to campus after one of their band members died after a football game in Orlando.

It happened Saturday night after the game.

The drum major's bandmates say the student vomited in the parking lot of the hotel where they were staying, then couldn't breathe.

They performed CPR, but doctors pronounced him dead at a local hospital.

Right now, officials say there doesn't appear to be any signs of foul play.

I was VERY saddened to hear of the passing of Drum Major Champion. I was so excited when I heard that my Alma Mater NCCU was playing FAMU this year, later to get the news that The Band was asked not to come because of the # of seats and revenue that they would be taking away from NCCU. I wish I would have gotten the opportunity to see this young man perform. My daughter is a member of the NCCU Marching Sound Machine under the direction of Mr. Jorim Reid NCCU's Director of Bands, who was a former FAMU Drum Major we are SO VERY BLESSED TO HAVE HIM !! My prayers go out to the Brotherhood & Sisterhood of HBCU Drum Majors but, FIRSTLY to the Champion Family. May GOD give you PEACE. My thoughts and prayers are with you...... <3

My son is a student at FAMU and this is so sad. For a much better article on FAMU's site, which states he was slated to be head MAJOR next year, you can go to FAMU's website, www.famu.edu or click on this link to go directly. http://www.famu.edu/index.cfm?a=headlines&p=display&news=2511

I was sadden to hear of this young mans death. I pray for his family and friends as God will be the only one to give them peace during this moment. As I read the many comments abouth this young man what made me the happiest is that one of the things in life he wanted to was to be a drum major at FAMU and God bless his soul he did it. For his parents put your hands and Gods hand and ask him for strenght. God bless you and your family is my prayer.
