Panama City Beach-- Superintendent Husfelt and board members discussed renovation plans at Surfside Middle School during a public hearing Tuesday evening.

A committee of parents, school officials and beach businesses, studying the project since July, presented its findings for handling the construction work.

The group is recommending the renovations be done in sections, with Surfside students staying on-campus.

Most of the 40 parents attending Tuesday nights workshop agreed.

"The kids are going to be safe and the kids all get to stay in one place. They're not dividing up grades and putting them all over the district and it'll maintain their sports schedules, their bands and all of their extra curricular activities as well. Which I think is very important,” said Jackie Brooks who has a son at Surfside and daughter at Arnold.

School board members will make a final decision during the next board meeting.
