A stand-off with Panama City police Sunday night ended badly for a Venetian Villas resident.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance around 11:00 at a home on Palermo Road. A man was supposedly holding a woman hostage. She apparently escaped from the house and called 911.

Police tried to talk him outside, but the man came to the front door and shot himself.

"It's a dangerous scene whenever weapons are involved naturally so they just had to be cautious about everything that was going on. Turned out that the man did in fact fire a weapon, shooting himself," said Sgt. Jeffrey Becker with the Panama City Police Department.

The man, who's identity has not been released, is in the hospital and is expected to recover. He'll face domestic-violence related charges once he's released.

Sure, get him medical treatment so that the state can spend a fortune in tax dollars to prosecute him. The police should have just let him die, it would have been less of a burden on the people of Florida. Now he'll get healthy, spend some time in jail ( or a psych ward ) then get out to do it again! Chance are this is not his first offense.
