A person wanted in connection with Friday night's murder on Cactus Avenue is now in custody. Panama City Police say 19-year-old Derrick Antoine Weaver turned himself in at the police department around 6:15 Thursday night, after seeing his picture local TV news broadcasts.
Weaver is being charged with one count of aggravated assault with a firearm and one count of principal to aggravated assault with a firearm. But detectives believe Weaver can help them solve last Friday's night's shooting of 24-year-old Henry Walter McLendon was shot outside of a home in the Old Orchard section of Panama City. McLendon died 2-days later.
Police say the people involved have gang affiliation, but stopped short of saying everybody was a gang member.
"We are seeking the community's efforts and support in attempts to gain further information to help us locate this individual, so that we can speak with him to find out what his level of involvement is, or knowledge is, in this case."
Although weaver is now in-custody, police say they are still actively working this case. If you have any information that could help, please call the Panama City police department at 872-3112 or Crimestoppers at 785-TIPS.
