Researchers: Estimate Year 2019 until ER's are Fully Staffed with Trained Docs

Researchers estimate it will take until 2019 to completely staff emergency rooms with fully-trained, board-certified doctors and that is considering none of the current doctors leave their jobs or die.

The Institute of Medicine says all ER doctors should have a specialty in emergency medicine.

Researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital say only about 55 percent of doctors currently meet this standard.

They say providing additional training for family physicians who work in the ER, and relying more on physicians assistants, can help.
