States are starting to crack down on a billing practice by some insurers.
Even healthcare customers who make sure they're covered by their insurance could be caught by what's called "balance billing."
Balance-billing happens when a member of the health care team is not part of the network, and then bills for their services. That could cost you hundreds, even thousands, in unexpected doctor bills.
Now some states, including New York and California, are looking into regulations that would shield consumers from those charges.
