On the afternoon of Monday, October 19, the life of Tom Hipps, a long time Newschannel 7 personality and Daybusters morning show host, was celebrated.

Hipps passed away Thursday evening, just a few weeks after celebrating his 80th birthday.

It's hard to sum up the life of a man who accomplished so much. Tom was a noted musician, Korean War veteran, Purple Heart recipient, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

His former coworkers, here at WJHG, where he hosted and entertained audiences for nearly 30 years, remember him as a mentor.

"Everything I learned about TV, good or bad, came from Tom Hipps. Working with Tom, being around him, being subject to his charisma and personality and his way with people. He was just the ultimate entertainer and host. He could do it all," says Newschannel 7's Paris Janos.

If you would like to make a donation in Tom's honor, the family is asking they be made in his memory to the Bay County Humane Society, Panama City Beach Paws and Claws, and/or the Gulf Jazz Society.
