If you have spent any time in a hospital you know the important role nurses play in your overall experience. As part of National Nurses Week, Bay Medical Center honored some of its employees Thursday afternoon.
Four nurses ranging from CNA's to RN's received awards for excellent performance and outstanding patient care.
The winners were nominated by co-workers and then hand picked by a special committee that selected the final winners based on overall performance in conjunction with hospital guidelines.
This year’s winners were for CNA riina kuusik, LPN Crystal Shephard, and N Linda Hall.
Bay Medical also added a new award this year, the Dr. Joan Elzawahry Clinical Excellence Award which was founded by her husband Doctor Kamel Elzawahry after she stayed at Bay Medical during an illness.
That award is given to a registered nurse who goes above and beyond the call of duty daily. The recipient of that award was Cindy Adams.
"As a nurse, you really have to be devoted to your patients. You’re devoted to hard work and long hours and you have to do it because you have a passion for people."
Nurse week always starts on May 6th and ends May 12th which is Florence Nightingale's birthday.
