Bay Medical No Longer Ties Tubes For Women

Bay Medical is in for some changes due to their new management. Since Sacred Heart is a Catholic organization, certain medical and surgical procedures will no longer be available.

After Sacred Heart takes over Bay Medical on April 1st, one of the procedures that will no longer happen is tubal ligations. Tubal ligations are a surgical form of contraception where a surgeon clamps or cuts the woman's fallopian tubes preventing her eggs from being fertilized. Since the Catholic church ruled the procedure is against their theology, Catholic operated hospitals usually don't perform tubal ligations. However, even though women won't be able to have the procedure done at Bay Medical, they will be able to go to other facilities if they desire a tubal ligation.

"There won't be any major changes where patients will have to change doctors or anything like that,” says Dr. Sam Wolf, D.O. of Emerald Coast OB/GYN, “they'll simply just have to let their physician know that they need to deliver in a hospital that will allow them to have a postpartum tubal the next day." Dr. Wolf says some doctors now offer out-patient tubal ligation procedure in their offices, that can have women back to their daily schedule in less than an hour.

Don't you all know the GOP has declared war on American Women? All the GOP candidates want ZERO contraceptives, GOP rape kits for women,no abortions, no health care if the it's against the employers consience or religion. It's going to get much worse until the GOP is removed from every office. Funny how their for less govt intrusion but want to invade YOUR freedoms and bodies, isn't it. You get what you vote for.Like GOP Sutherland and crew. They're here to help you. That's if you are a millionaire.

Mike, its time to get down off of your GOP soap box already. This had nothing to do with ANY party affiliation. If you have issues with this, go and take them to your BAY County comissioners. They are the ones who had the final say in the decision to sell out to Sacred Heart. BTW, Southerland had nothing to do with this deal, so i have no idea why you feel the need to involve his name. If you think the GOP wants to invade your freedoms and body, just wait until Obamacare takes affect, then you will truly feel freedom invasion..

Mike, those Democrat talking points are 6 months old. Please call your local Democrat headquarters to get the updated talking points; you know, the ones about Obama being so awesome, Bush is still evil, and everyone needs to vote Democrat or we'll all starve in the streets.

The GOP wants MORE govt intrusion into your life an if you are a woman, into your body. The GOP declared war on American Women, minorities, college kids, teachers, the elderly, veterans, unions, and the middle class. They are no longer act like Americans and want to transport us back to the 13th century with their dogma.

Just wait until the health care reform bill takes affect and the Govt. mandates your health care. If you believe the GOP is being intrusive, just wait and see how you are treated under the Dems. health care system. Just remember, it was the Dems. idea, and the Dems. that SHOVED it through the house, and in 2014 it will be shoved down our throats, like it or not.

this is just the beginning .... you just wait ... it'll get worse! I'm all for Sacred Heart Hospital but Bay Medical needed to work out their problems (get rid of the man in charge) without this happening in our community!

I completely agree, they should have gotten rid of the the man in charge plus the other 5 that supported his decisions to run our hospital in the ground. Employees sacrificed for years while the management still got raises and bonus checks.

What comes next. No prostate, or back surgey in males because it may cause erectile dysfunction. Or no male pelvic surgey as it may cause impotence???? Maybe our commissioners want to reconsider their vote.

Was this type of information released before the vote? What else will they no longer do because it doesn't conform to the Cathoic Church? In light of this information, looks like Gainer had a right to be concerned.

And here I thought we resisted theocratic authority. Having religion determine what medical procedures are available makes me think of the Talibans rule of afghanistan. Leave medical procedures to doctors and patients, not religious leaders. I'll certainly think twice before I use a scared heart facility. If bay medical can back out of the deal, they should.
