Wednesday Update at St. George Island

Panama City- The center of Tropical Storm Debby didn’t make landfall in the panhandle, but several coastal counties, especially Franklin County, took a beating anyway.

After an evacuation of St. George Island earlier in the week, residents are returning, anxious about what awaits them.

“I had to come and see it, you know? You never know. A lot of things can happen," said William Bell.

Bell owns one of the oldest vacation rental properties on the island.
It suffered only minor damages, a few upturned shingles.
Bell was more concerned about the island itself.

"There's a lot of erosion. We've lost some beach, but it's hanging in there," said Bell.

The bridge leading to St. George Island is now open to the public again.
There is an 8 o’clock curfew on the island which currently does not have power.
Progress Energy representatives say Tropical Storm Debby wiped out three power poles in St. George Sound.

Progress Energy is hoping to restore power by the weekend.
In the meantime, 2,000 homes and businesses are going without electricity.
