Springfield, FL-- Rutherford High School is making a move to an interim head football coach, at least for now.
As expected, Jeff Rolson publicly announced he's resigned his job as the Rams head coach. Monday morning Rolson met with his players to discuss that, and then met with the press. He did not go into detail as to why he's leaving after just two 3-7 seasons at the helm, other than to say his reasons were personal.
When Rolson finished speaking, Rutherford principal Mike Kennedy announced two year assistant Shawn Killets will guide the team through spring ball as interim coach, with the chance he could get the job on a full time basis.
Killets spent 7 years as a head coach at Bartow so he has the experience necessary, and he knows the players having spent two years with the program.
"Well the transition, we know the kids," says Killets. "The coaches know the kids. As far as the preparation and so forth, we'll probably just stay with what we're doing. You know I think the kids will adjust. Change is never easy. But keeping the kids in mind, we're trying to do what's best for them right now, and that's really, just the plan."
Mr. Kennedy indicated Killets is a strong candidate to get the job full time though again that can't occur until a proper search has been conducted.
