Springfield, FL--Monday night Bay shocked Rutherford on the diamond at Shamplain in the so called play-in game of the 5-A district one tournament, 3-1 the final.
Jon Hudson and his Rams the 4th seed in that five team district because of very slow start, but they came into districts having won 9 straight. Bay meanwhile just six wins all season.
Rams got on the board in the first when Dallas Davis stroked an rbi single to right, Andrew Mask scored to make it 1-0.
Bay came back with two runs in the third, the first on a grounder by Austin Hancock, the other comes after successive outfield errors, it was 2-1 Tornadoes.
Bay starter Cooper Harrison working hard to make that lead stand. He got out of the 5th with two runners on, and running, when he got a called third strike on Mask.
Then in the 6th and the Bay defense came up huge on successive plays. Leadoff hitter Brady Colburn hit a scorching line drive down the line in left, but Austin Haddock running it down, even his pitcher tipped his cap on that one.
The next hitter, Davis, with a sinking liner to center, Hancock comes flying in to snare that one.
The Bay offense then tacked on another run in the top of the 7th, three walks and an rbi single to right by Kelly Jones getting that done.
Harrison then retires the first two in the bottom half, walks the third hitter, but then promptly picks him off to end it.
A shocker at Shamplain, Bay wins 3-1. Now 7-13 they'll face top seed Arnold Tuesday at 4 in Gulf Breeze in the district tournament semifinals.
