Chipola Beats Rival Gulf Coast With a Play at the Plate

MARIANNA, FL- Chipola and Gulf Coast renewed their rivalry on the baseball diamond for the first time in 2012 and it was a thriller.
Gulf Coast jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the 3rd inning, and then the teams traded runs 6th and 7th. Gulf Coast held a 9-7 lead in the bottom of the 8th when Chipola put up 4 to take a 11-9 lead. Gulf Coast scored its 10th with men on 2nd and third when Mike Wells hit a single to left. The runner on third scored, but the second runner was tagged out at the plate by Ladson Montgomery to end the game. Chipola wins 11-10.
Chipola moves to 21-11, and 1-0 in Panhandle conference play. While Gulf Coast moves to 22-8, and 0-1. These teams move the three game series to Gulf Coast Friday at 2.
