Lakeland, FL--Northwest Florida's shot a winning a state championship and a berth in the national tournament has come to an end. The team losing it's second game at state in Lakeland, a 4-0 defeat Monday at the hands of Polk.
Coach Martin and his guys, the runner up in the Panhandle, lost their opener in the 8 team double elimination tourney, then won three in a row to make it to the tourney's final day Monday.
The Raiders needing two wins to take the title, but it was not meant to be. The Raiders unable to put up any runs against Polk pitching in the Monday morning game, Polk pitchers tossing a 7 hit shutout.
The Raiders finish third in the state, 3-2 at the tournament, 30-19 overall for the season. A good run falling just a bit short. Chipola eliminated after losing it's second game Sunday, 2-2 at the tournament, 39-17 the Indians final mark.
